The International Engineering Competition (IEC) is the flagship cooperative event between the CFES, and our international partners; the Board of European Students of Technology (BEST), and bonding from Germany. The competition will be the highest possible level of international engineering competition in the areas of engineering design and consulting. The IEC will showcase the top groups of students from each organizations highest level competition and will be hosted on a rotating basis between the organizations. The inaugural IEC will be held in October 2010 with the location to be determined. International competition is about more that being the best; The IEC provides a unique opportunity for students to gain international corporate exposure as well as participate in a cultural exchange with the other competitors.
The competitions will be hosted by a university through an application process similar to hosting Congress or CEC with the difference of all organizations having the opportunity to propose hosting rights. The event will be run by both the host school and the IEC board which will support them with resources and experience. The IEC committee is made up of 6 board of director members called Boxies and a large group of interested volunteers to support the initiative. The two CFES boxies are Daisy Yee and Bernard Goupil who both will be overseeing the project and ensuring its success.
The IEC is currently planned for the three organizations; BEST, bonding, and the CFES, however there is already interest from over three more national organizations including NAESC (USA), SENZ (New Zealand) and India. The success of this inaugural competition will drive the dates of the addition of new organizations into the IEC which are currently planned for the 2nd or 3rd competitions.
Currently the project is still in many of its planning stages so if you have ideas for this project you can join the discussion groups and provide some ideas for the project. If you would like to become a part of this exciting project please email international@cfes.ca and the international relations commissioner will be able to connect you with the project and its history to find a place that fits with your interests in the IEC.
Mark it on your calendar to either be there as a competitor or as a host university volunteer and we will see you in 2010!
